Free Mammogram Mobile Clinic Coming To Brooklyn Public Library
Free mammograms and clinical breast exams will be held at two library branches on May 25, open to all New York City women over 40.

DITMAS PARK, BROOKLYN - Women over the age of 40 are invited to a free mobile care clinic providing digital mammograms and clinical breast exams, set to take place at two Brooklyn Public Library locations on Thursday, May 25. The first event will be held 9 a.m. to noon in Borough Park at 1265 43rd St., with a second event in Ditmas Park from 2-4:30 p.m. at 1305 Cortelyou Rd.
There will be no co-pays required, with all deductibles waived. Uninsured patients are also welcome. Interested attendees must currently be living in New York City and will need to bring a photo ID, and at the time of the clinic, it must be at least a year since the patient’s last screening.
One New Yorker, Mary Vines, shared her first mobile care clinic experience with Patch, having attended an event in November 2017.

“A mammogram is one of those things I always mean to do and somehow manage to put off until I found out about the mammogram bus sponsored by [Assembly member Carroll],” said Vines.
“It was so easy to walk up the block, fill out some easy forms, and boom, I was getting my check-up. It was fast. It was easy. And the people are so nice, friendly and gentle. It was a great experience.”

Funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Health’s Cancer Services Program, the clinic will be hosted by Assemblyman Robert Carroll, the American Italian Cancer Foundation and the Brooklyn Public Library. The annual event is an homage to women’s health and is usually held in the fall, with the next event scheduled for Nov. 17 at Carroll’s district office. A spring date was added to expand coverage and allow more women in New York City to take advantage of the no-cost opportunity.
“Prevention is the key to great health,” Carroll told Patch. “I'm pleased to partner with the Brooklyn Public Library and the American Italian Cancer Foundation to provide this essential service at no cost. If you are eligible, take a few moments today to schedule your no-cost mammogram. Knowing now could save your life.”
Appointments are encouraged; while walk-ins will be accepted, there is no guarantee that a walk-in patient will be seen. Appointments can be made through the American Italian Cancer Foundation by calling (877) 628-9090. For additional information, patients can reach out to Assemblyman Carroll at (718) 788-7221.
