Don't let Sandy ruin your weekend. Here are our picks for some of the most scintillating events happening around Brooklyn:

 

A Walk/Run for Prospect Park

When/Where: Saturday, Nov. 3. Run begins at 9 a.m., walk begins at 10 a.m. Enter at 15th Street & Prospect Park West. 

Why Go: The marathon may be cancelled, but you can still work off those hurricane-pounds during Prospect Park's annual 5k Walk/Run. All proceeds from the event will be dedicated to helping restore Prospect Park, which suffered significant damage from the hurricane.

Cost: Registration for the run is $30, the walk is $20 for adults and $10 for children under 12-years-old.

 

Target First Saturdays

When/Where: Saturday, Nov. 3, 5 to 9 p.m. at Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway

Why Go: After days of being cooped up in your house, give yourself a full sensory experience at Brooklyn Museum's Target First Saturdays. Listen to live music, wander the galleries and watch a light show that for once this week isn't just the flashing of red and blue police sirens rushing to the scene of some Sandy-related disaster.

Cost: Free

 

Annual Observatory Day of the Dead and Halloween Costume Party

When/Where: Saturday, Nov. 3. Doors open at 8 p.m., performance begins at 9 p.m. The Observatory is located at 543 Union St.

Why Go: Celebrate the Day of the Dead the right way: With tacos, tequila, music and sugar skulls. Got an abundance of post-hurricane energy? There will also be a piñata of Lady Death just waiting for you to beat the stuffing out of her.

Cost: $15

 

King Con Brooklyn

When/Where: Saturday Nov. 3 and Sunday Nov. 4, Brooklyn Lyceum, 227 4th Ave.

Why Go: Nerd out on new artists, old comic serials, panels, film screenings and even juggling and puppet shows for kids (and, let's face it, you too). 

Cost: Thanks to Sandy, the event is now pay-what-you-can.
