Mimi's Hummus Building Erupts In Flames, 1 Injured: FDNY

Firefighters battled a fire in the basement of the popular Ditmas Park eatery's building Tuesday night, said the FDNY.

DITMAS PARK, BROOKLYN -- One person was injured when flames erupted in the basement beneath Mimi's Hummus Tuesday night, said the FDNY.

Firefighters rushed to the six-story building on Cortelyou Road near Westminster Road just before 9:20 p.m., the FDNY.

Emergency responders took one person with minor injuries to Maimonides Hospital and the fire was under control by 9:50 p.m., according to the FDNY.

Chef Mimi Kitani opened the Middle Eastern eatery in 2009 and has since garnered a steady following in Ditmas Park and write-ups from the New York Times, Eater and New York Magazine.

A Mimi's employee told Patch no workers were hurt in the basement blaze and that owners hope to reopen on Thursday.
