BROOKLYN, NEW YORK — This weekend Brooklyn will celebrate the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man who didn't have to resort to swear words to make himself heard, and whose eloquence won't be forgotten in our lifetimes.

An Adam Experiment

What: An Adam Experiment examines the life of Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., the nation's first African-American congressman, and a New York City legend.

Solid Light Works: Anthony McCall
Neighborhood: Red Hook
What: Check out one of the few art exhibits enjoyed best in darkness. Six enormous light installations will take over the main hall at Pioneer Works on Friday.

When: Opening reception 7 p.m. Friday
Everything in the Universe is My Brother
What: Painter Rudy Shepherd showcases work that investigates evil through portraits of criminals and the victims of crimes. You'll see Trayvon Martin, Heather Heyer, and Steve Bannon in one exhibit.

16th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Tribute Concert
Neighborhood: Fort Greene
What: Brooklyn Music School presents it's 16th annual tribute concert, hosted by Lester Lynch, and featuring selections from his recent recording, "On My Journey Now: Spirituals & Hymns."
Where: Brooklyn Music School at 126 St. Felix St.
When: 5 p.m. Saturday
Stoopdreamer by Pat Fenton
What: Shephard's Hall will host a staged reading of "Stoopdreamer," a play about "Windsor Terrace, memory and coming home."

Glitterati with Razor-N-Tape
Neighborhood: Bushwick
What: Celebrate glitter with the House of Yes. Prepare to find glitter in your home, and on your person, for years to come.

When: 10 p.m. Saturday
Thug Passion Presents: Belly
Neighborhood: Gowanus
What: This is a celebration of "classic Black movies with commentary, music, movie clips, and live table reads" brought to you by comedians, reported by organizers to be "hilarious."

Viva Las Vegas
What: Proceeds from this late-night party — with a bunch of DJs, dancing and social media things — at Baby's All Right will go to the victims of October’s Las Vegas shooting through the National Compassion Fund.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Storytelling & Music with PLGNA
Neighborhoods: Prospect-Lefferts Gardens
What: Author Mahogany Browne reads from her new children's book "Black Girl Magic." There will also be music performances and activities for kids.
Where: Grace Reformed Church of Flatbush at 1800 Bedford Ave.
When: 11 a.m. Monday
The 32nd Annual Brooklyn Tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
What: The Brooklyn Academy of Music celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. by gathering activists, civic leaders, musicians and performing artists in one space to pay tribute to the civil rights leader's legacy.
Where: BAM Howard Gilman Opera House at 30 Lafayette Ave.
When: All day Monday
