New Flatbush Coffee Shop Will Double As Moving Company Office Space

A husband-wife duo that owns a moving company is opening a coffee shop in Flatbush.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — A Brooklyn couple that owns a moving company has finished moving into their Flatbush office space — which will double as a coffee shop, lounge and, hopefully soon, a bar.

"My husband and I own a moving company," Liana Schapiro told Patch. "We wanted a physical location for the office for our moving company. And we thought it would be cool, as long as we’re renting a space, to make it a cafe as well. So it’s sort of both our office and a cafe."

The cafe — Roger That Cafe, on the corner of Rogers Avenue and Erasmus Street — had a soft opening over the weekend and is now open to the public, Schapiro said.

Schapiro said she and her husband, Noel Black, want the location to be a little different than a traditional coffee bar with Wi-Fi and a few tables.

"There aren’t really tables in the restaurant, it’s more couches," Schapiro said. "We want it to be more a lounge where people could be really comfortable hanging out. We do have a table for people who need to do work, but we wanted it to be that kind of vibe."

Schapiro said it's also "very family friendly," with a baby changing station in the bathroom. They also hope to get a liquor license so they can serve beer and wine.

The name is a play on Rogers Avenue, where Schapiro wants her shop to stand out.

"Of course there’s a million coffee shops" in Brooklyn, Schapiro said. "On Rogers there’s plenty of food places that are more fast food and stuff. We just want people to come in and relax. People can come and use the Wi-Fi and hang out if they want. It's place with good seating, and eventually sort of a wine/coffee shop."

And the location will serve as an office for their moving company, Stride Movers.

For now, the cafe is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and 8 to 4 on weekdays. For more info, visit the shop's website here.
