Person Hit By Car In East Flatbush In Serious Condition: FDNY

A person was rushed to the hospital Monday afternoon after getting hit near Ditmas Avenue, FDNY officials said.

EAST FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — A person is in serious condition after getting hit by a vehicle in East Flatbush on Monday, FDNY officials said.

The person was hit around 2:30 p.m. near Ditmas Avenue and East 95th Street, found near the border of East Flatbush and Canarsie, an FDNY spokesperson said. The person was rushed to nearby Brookdale Hospital in serious condition, the spokesperson said.

The crash follows a week of deadly pedestrian crashes on New York City streets in the last few weeks, many of which were in Brooklyn.

Most recently, 57-year-old Andres Stylianou, of Staten Island, was killed Friday trying to cross Third Avenue in the middle of a block near Seventh Street. He was hit first by a truck and then by two sedans, police said.

Also on Friday, an unidentified man was hit by a private garbage truck while jaywalking on West 49th Street and 10th Avenue around 4:45 a.m. Friday, police said.

On Thursday, a 26-year-old was hit by a box truck backing up in Manhattan and 85-year-old Sunset Park resident Brendan Gill was killed when a box truck slammed into him as he crossed Third Avenue at 39th Street just after 3:30 p.m., police said.

Earlier in the week, 67-year-old Zhisheng Lin died Thursday after he was hit Wednesday in Queens, a 75-year-old Brooklyn woman was hit and killed Wednesday in Sunset Park and 80-year-old Misa Gorlitskaya died in the hospital, three days after she was knocked down by an SUV in Sheepshead Bay.

The Brooklyn deaths join two other pedestrians who died just in the last few weeks, bringing the count up to six since late November for the borough.

The crashes have led to at least one safety measure from city officials, who announced Monday that they will lower the speed limit from 30 MPH to 25 MPH along Third Avenue from Prospect Ave to 62nd Street and Hamilton Avenue, from Luquer Street to 18th Street in January.

Third Avenue saw two of the pedestrian deaths in the last week and four total cyclist or pedestrian deaths this year.
