Sycamore Brooklyn Reopens After Health Inspection Shutdown
"The coexistence of the flower shop and bar is suddenly a little too cozy in the eyes of the great city of New York."

DITMAS PARK, BROOKLYN — Sycamore Brooklyn, a combination flower shop and bar in Ditmas Park, has reopened following a failed health inspection that forced the joint to close its doors for two days.
Sycamore received a dreadful score of 66 on a June 26 health inspection that found numerous violations including the presence of "filth flies," improper food surface and food unprotected from possible contaminants.
"We are facing a unique and disruptive situation. The DOH has shut us down!" Sycamore wrote on its Facebook page after the inspection. "They visited Sycamore Monday afternoon for an inspection and closed the doors at approximately 5 p.m. The crux of the closure pertains to our dual business model.

(We first saw word of the shutdown on the excellent KARMA Brooklyn blog.)
Customers and other people in the neighborhood were largely supportive of the neighborhood watering hole.
"What're they afraid of? That someone might actually stop and smell the flowers? Sheesh," one person wrote.
City Councilmember Mathieu Eugene also chimed in on Facebook to say, "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. My office is currently looking into resolving this issue."
It would appear, though, that Sycamore met the Health Department's demands. It posted on Wednesday that it was back open for business.
"Cold beers are flowin' at Sycamore, and we are soooo grateful for all your support, concerns and just pure love. Come on over. We've missed you tremendously!! Thank you," the bar wrote.
We've reached out to Sycamore for more information and will update this post if we hear back.
