ICYMI: Ta-Nehisi Coates Coming To Kings Theatre To Promote New Book

Coates will be promoting his new book, "We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy."

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — Ta-Nehisi Coates will take to the stage at Flatbush's Kings Theatre in October to present his new book about President Obama's two terms in office.

"The Atlantic" editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg will interview Coates for the event on Wednesday, October 4. Tickets go on sale August 9.

Coates, a native of Flatbush, is coming off of the hugely successful release of "Between the World and Me," a raw story about racism in America written as a letter to his teenage son. The work was a finalist for the National Book Award and won Coates a MacArthur "Genius Grant."

His new book, "We Were Eight Years in Power: An American Tragedy," is a collection of essays about President Obama's election and "the vicious backlash that fueled the election of Donald Trump."

Included in the collection are "The Case for Reparations" and "The Black Family in the Age of Mass Incarceration," two works published in The Atlantic that won Coates widespread praise, along with eight other essays, one for each year of the Obama presidency.
