Package Near World Trade Center Cleared By NYPD Bomb Squad

Cops investigated a package believed to belong to a man taken into custody for pouring an unknown liquid on himself, police said.

WORLD TRADE CENTER, NY — The NYPD bomb squad investigated a suspicious package believed to belong to a man who poured an unknown liquid on himself near the World Trade Center Tuesday afternoon, according to NYPD officials.

Just before 5:30 p.m., the package near West and Vesey streets was deemed safe, the department's Counterterrorism Bureau wrote on Twitter.

One man, who police say was "emotionally disturbed," was taken into custody after he poured an unknown liquid on himself, NYPD spokespeople said. The suspicious package appears to have been the man's suitcase.
