Broad Street J, Z Stop to Get New Elevator Entrances

The supertower at 45 Broad St. will bring with it new entrances to the Broad Street J and Z stops.

FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — Elevators are coming to the cobblestone streets of the Financial District.

The Landmarks Preservation Committee approved new elevators to be built at the Broad Street J and Z stop in conjunction with the new supertower planned for 45 Broad St. The LPC had to approve changes to the historic streets at Tuesday's meeting in order to install the elevators — one at the northeast corner of Broad Street and Exchange Place and the other at the southwest corner. They will extend the sidewalk into Broad Street in order to accommodate the changes.

The elevators themselves were not designed by Urbahn Architects, who are in charge of the project, but instead done by the New York City Transit Authority and New York City Public Design Commission.

The Real Deal acquired renderings of the behemoth tower in February. It is supposed to be over 1,100 feet tall and contain 150 apartments, including a single penthouse on the 62nd floor, as well as office space. It will be the sixth-tallest building in the city when it's completed.
