Bus Fatally Hits 81-Year-Old Woman In Lower Manhattan, Cops Say
A woman was fatally hit by a bus Thursday evening in Battery Park City, police said.
BATTERY PARK CITY, NY — An 81-year-old woman was fatally struck by a bus Thursday evening in Battery Park City, police said.
Arlene Kalfus, 81, was hit and killed by a bus on South End Ave. Thursday about 6:50 p.m., according to police.
When officers arrived at 325 South End Ave. where she was struck, they found her lying in the road with trauma about her body, unconscious and unresponsive, police said. She was walking less than a block from her home in Battery Park City.

Emergency services pronounced her dead at South End Ave., police said.
Officers determined that a 57-year-old operator of a 2010 Ford bus let passengers out of the bus and then proceeded to head northbound on South End Ave., where he hit Kalfus, police said.

The bus driver remained at the scene, police said.
An investigation is ongoing by the Police Department's Collision Investigation Squad.
