Glamp On Governors Island In A Tent That's Nicer Than Your Home

Vacation in luxury within sight of the city lights.

GOVERNORS ISLAND, NY — Luxury camping is coming to Governors Island, letting New Yorkers sleep under the stars and city lights with the comforts of high-end amenities.

The island's management announced this week a new partnership with the glamour campground company Collective Hotels & Retreats, which will bring fancy tents and dining to Governors Island starting in May.

Collective Hotels & Retreats will also operate a new public lawn with events and dining options for visitors. The company signed a three year license agreement to take over six acres of the island to create the new space. Up to 100 overnight guests can stay at the "glampgrounds" each night.

What does luxury camping entail, you ask? At the Governors Island glampgrounds, the fancy tents are very likely nicer than your apartment. You can rent a tent with either a king-size bed or two single beds, each made up with 1,500 thread-count linens and duvet covers.

Your "campsite" will include electricity as well as sockets to charge all your electronics, so that each step of your pseudo-camping experience can be properly photographed. The luxe tents also include full bathrooms with toilets and hot showers, so you won't have to rough any part of your trip.

Other tents are slightly smaller with slightly-less-fancy amenities, like 1,000 threat-count (gasp!) linens. The glampgrounds will include high-end dining options and other recreational activities.
