Threat Received By Manhattan Community College, Official Says
The Borough of Manhattan Community College received a threat via Facebook, according to an official at the school

TRIBECA, NY — The Borough of Manhattan Community College received a threatening message via Facebook this week, a school official confirmed.
The college, at 199 Chambers St., received a threat via a Facebook message, according to Manny Romero, the school's spokesman.
Romero could not elaborate on the details of the threat or what account it was sent to, but said that the school had alerted the NYPD and was working with police investigation.

"We are working with NYPD on this case to follow protocol as necessary," he said. He could not elaborate on any safety measures being taken at the campus but said that not buildings had been evacuated on Thursday morning.
An NYPD spokesman could not immediately confirm the threat or provide more information.

In the wake of a mass shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla. that left 17 students and teachers dead, schools around the country have seen a startling uptick in violent threats. The Educator's School Safety Network, a nonprofit, has tracked more than 70 threats at schools around the country since the Feb. 14 massacre. Usually, the nonprofit says, they identify about 10 threats or incidents per day.
