MTA Bus Kills Woman Near Trinity Church, Driver Arrested

The woman was killed when she was hit by the bus on Friday evening.

FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — A 58-year-old woman was hit and killed by an MTA bus as workers headed home for the weekend on Friday, and police have arrested the bus driver.

According to police, Bella-Yury Krementsova was hit by the QM7 bus as it traveled north on Trinity Place near Exchange Alley at 5:34 p.m. on Friday. Krementsova was dragged for blocks until pedestrians alerted the bus driver someone had been run over. The driver exited and found the woman under the bus, police said. Krementsova suffered severe trauma to her head and body and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver, 63-year-old Roger Weckworth, was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to yield causing injury.

The bus driver stayed on scene, and was actually transported to Beth Israel Hospital for observation, according to police. The investigation is ongoing by the NYPD Collision Investigation Squad.

Krementsova lived on the Upper West Side near 94th Street.

The bus came to a stop less than a block from Trinity Church.
