NYC Has 113 Of America's Best High Schools, US News Says
U.S. News & World Report released its annual list of best high schools in the country. Find out how NYC schools fared.

TRIBECA, NY — New York City has 113 of the country's best public high schools, according to the latest release of the U.S. News and World Report rankings.
Of the top 500 in the country, 20 were in the city. The top 10 schools in New York state were all here, according to the report.
The 2018 rankings were released on Wednesday and evaluate over 20,500 public high schools. U.S. News identified schools that best serve all students and assessed how prepared students are for college-level work. Schools are also recognized with gold, silver and bronze medals with gold indicating the greatest level of college readiness.

In New York City, 20 high schools were recognized with a gold medal, 43 schools with silver and 50 with bronze. Just 500 schools nationwide, or 2 percent of all schools evaluated, are awarded with the gold medal.
In a state-by-state comparison, New York in 11th in the U.S. News ranking. The report ranks states as a whole by comparing which have the largest proportion of their high schools earning gold and silver medals. By this metric, New York tied 11th spot with Wisconsin, with almost 18 percent of schools in both states earning gold or silver medals. Massachusetts clinched the top spot as a state, with nearly 26 percent of its high schools earning gold or silver medals on the U.S. News ranking.

"Top-ranked schools succeed in three main areas: exceeding expectations on state proficiency tests,
offering challenging coursework and graduating their students," Anita Narayan, the managing editor of
Education at U.S. News, said in a statement.
Here are the top 10 schools in New York City, which also happen to be the top 10 in the state (national rankings in parenthesis):
1. Baccalaureate School for Global Education (9): Long Island City, New York
2. High School of American Studies at Lehman College (21): Bronx, New York
3. High School Math Science and Engineering at CCNY (32): New York, New York
4. Staten Island Technical High School (39): Staten Island, New York
5. Brooklyn Latin School (40): Brooklyn, New York
6. High School for Dual Language and Asian Studies (45): New York, New York
7. Townsend Harris High School (46): Flushing, New York
8. Bronx High School of Science (57): Bronx, New York
9. Queens High School for the Sciences at York College (63): Jamaica, New York
10. Stuyvesant High School (67): New York, New York
