NYC School Closings: Find Out If The Kids Get A Second Snow Day

The storm is expected to dump more than a foot of snow on the city.

MANHATTAN, NY — Sorry, kids: One snow day is all you're getting.

New York City public schools will be open on Thursday, city officials decided Wednesday evening.

A massive snowstorm beginning Tuesday night moved Mayor Bill de Blasio to close schools on Wednesday, but kids will have to suit up and trudge through the snow in time for the first bell on Thursday.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for the city and surrounding areas starting at midnight on Tuesday until 8 a.m. Thursday.

Forecasters are now predicting could be up to 18 inches. The heaviest snowfall will start on Wednesday at about 7 a.m. You can get the latest on the city's weather forecast here.

In addition to closing schools on Wednesday, the storm caused thousands of flights to be canceled. More than 690 salt spreaders and 1,600 plows are working to clear the roads in time for tomorrow's morning commute.
