FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — The 1 train stopped running in Lower Manhattan during Tuesday morning's commute, the MTA said.

The 1 train was not running between South Ferry-Whitehall St. and Chambers St. stations in both directions while the MTA worked to remove a train with mechanical issues at the Rector St. station, according to an MTA alert about 10 a.m.

Northbound 2 and 3 trains were running local from Chambers St. to 34 St-Penn Station, the MTA said.

The 1, 2 and 3 lines resumed service by about 10:20 a.m., NYCT Subway tweeted.

The Fire Department was also called to Rector St. about 9:30 a.m. after reports of smoke and an odor on the southbound track resulting from the mechanical issue on the train — though the department found no specific findings of fire or smoke and had since left the station, an FDNY spokesman said.
