NEW YORK, NY — The 18th Annual NYPD Memorial 5k Run is set to kick off Sunday morning in honor of all the NYPD officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The event begins with a short prayer at the New York City Police Memorial Wall, where the names of more than 1,000 NYPD fallen officers have been etched. The prayer is followed by the 3.1 mile run or walk and a subsequent Kids Fun Run, Award Ceremony and celebration.

The race participants are able to designate a specific NYPD officer they are running in memory of, and the honoree's name is shown on on the running bib, according to the race's website.
