VIDEO: Peregrine Falcon Chicks Hatch In Financial District Nest

Two of the four peregrine falcons this season have hatched.

FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — Two of the four peregrine falcon eggs perched on a Lower Manhattan skyscraper have hatched, a live web camera shows.

The famed falcons, Adele and Frank, live in a nest in the Financial District tower at 55 Water St. on the 14th floor of the 54-story tower.

They've gained a following based on a live birdcam tracking the nest. Last month, Adele laid four eggs.

Thursday, cracking on two eggs was seen. Over the weekend, two of the baby birds hatched. Images from the live web camera Sunday and Monday morning showed the falcons feeding and cozying up next to two other eggs that have yet to hatch.

Peregrine falcons — among the world's fastest birds that can possibly reach up to 200 miles per hour while hunting for prey — decreased drastically in the 1950s and 1960s after certain pesticides were introduced, according to the Department of Environmental Protection.

Peregrine falcons have lived at their digs at 55 Water St. since 1999, when the first generation Jack and Diane nested there.
