LIBERTY ISLAND, NY — The Statue of Liberty's home lost power Monday as a snowstorm hit New York City, officials confirmed.

Liberty Island was hit with a power outage just before 1 p.m., according to National Park Service and PSE&G electric company representatives.

"We are aware of the power outage, and we have people that just arrived to assess the situation," Rebecca Mazzarella confirmed to Patch.

It was not immediately known if the entire island, including the Statue of Liberty, was affected or if the outage was partial. Its cause was unknown Monday afternoon.

Power was expected to be fully restored by 3 p.m., according to Mazzarella.

Emergency generators kicked in after just a few minutes, according to the National Park Service.

"It was a very brief power outage," NPS spokesperson Jerry Willis said. "There wasn't any negative impact."

The island will close early Monday, Willis said. The last boat will leave Liberty Island at 4 p.m. and Ellis Island at 4:15 p.m.
