Rudy And Judith Giuliani To Divorce: Report

The former mayor and his third wife are divorcing.

TRIBECA, NY — Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and his wife Judith Giuliani are divorcing, the politician confirmed to the New York Post.

"It is with great sadness I can confirm that Judith and I are divorcing," Rudy Giuliani said in a statement to the Post. "We hope to do this as amicably as possible, and hope that people will respect the privacy of our children at this time."

Judith Giuliani, 63, filed a contested divorce proceeding in the Manhattan Supreme Court, the Post reported.

The couple have been married since 2003. Giuliani, 73, served as mayor from 1994 to 2001, when he was succeeded by Michael Bloomberg.

This was the third marriage for both. Giuliani announced the end of his second marriage at a 2000 press conference, telling the public and the press before informing his then-wife Donna Hanover. Giuliani's marriage with Hanover ended in a long and protracted divorce. After the surprise press conference, Hanover, the then-First Lady of New York City, told reporters that the couple had had problems for years and accused Giuliani of having an affair with one of his staffers. Hanover and Giuliani had two children together.

Giuliani's first marriage, to Regina Peruggi, ended in divorce in 1982 after 14 years of marriage.
