'Sensory' Art Installation Coming To South Street Seaport

The South Street Seaport District is getting a new public art display in December

SOUTH STREET SEAPORT DISTRICT, NY — South Street Seaport is getting an unusual public art installation next month that promises an "immersive sensory adventure."

The South Street Seaport District is getting an outdoor public light show, but with a twist: The lights will react to sound and warmth. The cobblestone streets of the Seaport District will get spheres of various sizes, all of which will be filled with thousands of LED lights. Those lights, in turn, will change colors and light up in response to different stimuli.

The unusual light show comes from Symmetry Labs, the art and design studio that's created installations for Burning Man and the Super Bowl, among other high-profile clients.
