September Tribeca Art+Culture Night: What To See And Do

The quarterly art festival has an exhaustive line up of events and spaces for guests to peruse Wednesday.

TRIBECA, NY — Step into the Downtown art scene with Wednesday's Tribeca Art+Culture Night where dozens of artist studios, galleries and pop-up exhibits will open their doors.

The quarterly festival celebrates the neighborhood's flourishing art world with more than 30 Lower Manhattan locations showcasing a slew of events including exhibits, performances and workshops in just three hours, from 6-9 p.m.

Guests can choose their own approach by mixing and matching events, or strolling through various spaces at their own speed. General admission is free but a handful of events will costs visitors.

VR Experiences

  • Where: New Inc. & Beheld, 325 Canal St.
  • When: 6-8 p.m.
  • What: This installation includes immersive VR pieces by three artists.

Stories of Your Migration: Interactive Workshop With Artist Natalia Nakazawa at Double Knot

  • Where: Double Knot, 13 White St.
  • When: 6-7:30 p.m.
  • What: Artist Natalia Nakazawa will give a talk on migration at the Double Knot — a store that specializes in handmade carpets, rugs and textiles from Turkey, Persia and neighboring regions. The event culminates with a workshop where participates will use scraps of fabric to design "personal flags."

Salsa and Swing Dance Class With Artur Sveshnikov and Svitlana Gliebova at Duane Park

  • Where: Daune Park, 157 Duane Street
  • When: 6:30-8:30 p.m.
  • What: Instructors with the Fred Astaire Dance Studio Downtown New York will give budding dancers salsa and swing lessons in two 45-minute sessions. The first runs from 6:30-7:15 p.m., the second runs from 7:30-8:15 p.m.

Meet Marela Zacarias at Sapar Contemporary

  • Where: Sapar Contemporary, 9 North Moore Street
  • When: 6:30-8 p.m.
  • What: Artist Marela Zacarias will be on hand throughout the evening to discuss her work.

Open Studios: Hercules Art Studio Program

  • Where: Hercules Art Studio Program, 25 Park Pl.
  • When: 6:30-8 p.m.
  • What: Visitors will have free reign to explore the studios of Cati Bestard, Sujung Chang, Pablo Diaz, Madhini Nirmal, Phoebe Osborne, Manny Padernos.

Open Studios: White Street Studios

  • Where: White Street Studio, 50 White Street
  • When: 6:30-8 p.m.
  • What: Attendees can browse the studios of artists Regina Silvers, Erin Ko, Edward Love, Michael Jenkins, Andrew Tomasulo and Aly Stosz.

Artist Talk with Sarah Peters at the New York Academy of Art

  • Where: New York Academy of Art111 Franklin St.
  • When: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • What: Queens-born sculpter Sarah Peters will discuss her bronze works at the New York Academy of Art.

Taiko Performance by the Kaoru Watanabe Taiko Center at Tribeca Park

  • Where: Tribeca Park
  • When: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
  • What: A group ensemble from the Kaoru Watanabe Taiko Center with perform using traditional taiko drums, a type of Japanese percussion instruments.

Hat Making Workshop at BM Franklin

  • Where: BM Franklin, 368 Broadway
  • When: 6:30-8 p.m.
  • What: This workshop will walk participants through the hat-making process with an interactive demonstration running through some of the key steps to create a hat from scratch.

Imaginary Waterscapes No. 1: A Performance by Sto Len at Apexart

  • Where: 291 Church Street
  • When: 7-7:45 p.m.
  • What: Sto Len will "create a live sonic exploration" of water using technologies including Bluetooth, solar panels and digital wireless transmitters.

Adventures in Nature and Navigation Skills with Melissa Goodwin at Best Made & Co.

  • Where: Best Made & Co., 36 White St.
  • When: 7-8 p.m.
  • What: Adventurer Melissa Goodwin will regale the audience with stories from her hiking journeys while imparting survival skill wisdom to the audience.

Artist Talk with Allan Markman and Christopher Sheils at Soho Photo Gallery

  • Where: Soho Photo Gallery, 15 White St.
  • When: 7-7:30 p.m.
  • What: Photographers Allan Markman and Christopher Sheils will discuss their work on view.

"Electric Awakening" Performance by Dennis Yueh-ye Lee and The Living Theatre

  • Where: Church Street School, 41 White St.
  • When: 7:30-8 p.m.
  • What: Artists with The Living Theatre group will perform an excerpt of their choreographed piece, “Awakening.”

Drawing Workshop at Church Street School

  • Where: Church Street School, 41 White Street
  • When: 7:30-9 p.m.
  • What: Artist Luisa Cantara will share her drawing techniques in this workshop.

VIP Art Party at Spring Place

  • Where: Spring Place, 6 Saint Johns Lane
  • When: 9-10:30 p.m.
  • What: The art festival closes with a cocktail mixer for creatives to mingles.
