Tribeca Music School To Move Into Former Flea Theater Space
The Church Street School for Music and Art will open in a White Street space after searching for a more affordable rent.

FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — The beloved Church Street School for Music and Art will move into a new space next year after a long search for a home with a more affordable rent, the school's director announced.
The nonprofit school, currently located at 74 Warren St., has been searching for a different home since as the rent in its current Tribeca space continued to climb. Now, the school will open in the space at 41 White St., which previously housed the Tribeca staple the Flea Theater.
"We have six years left on our lease, and we pay an exorbitant amount of rent," the school's executive director Lisa Ecklund-Flores told the Tribeca Citizen last year. "We have to create the longevity that this institution and this neighborhood deserve."

Ecklund-Flores described the school's old rent as a "constant struggle" in a new statement, and said the rent in the White Space offered a "significant reduction."
The Flea Theater moved from its longtime White Street home to a new space on 20 Thomas St., continuing its run of more than two decades as a renowned Off-Off-Broadway community.
