LIBERTY ISLAND, NY — The new Statue of Liberty Museum is set to open Thursday.

The 26,000-square-foot museum will display Lady Liberty's original torch, which was removed and replaced due to rainwater damage in 1984.

A new time-lapse video released Tuesday ahead of the opening this week reveals the construction process for nearly three years of work, including the painstaking process of disassembling and transporting the original torch to the museum.

"We are so pleased that was a monumental project for us — our first design and construction of a building on Liberty Island — has been captured on video," Stephen Briganti, president of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, said in a statement. The video, made in collaboration with EarthCam, will become part of the archives, Briganti said.

"Preserving the moment when the island welcomed the most significant addition in 134 years, and the important educational value the museum will certainly bring to its visitors, is extremely rewarding for our organization," Brian Cury, founder of EarthCam, said in a statement.
