Vikings Are Invading Battery Park City (Or At Least A Ship Is)
The Norwegian Viking ship Draken Harald Hårfagre will be docking in Battery Park City this weekend. Don't let your kids stray too far.
FINANCIAL DISTRICT, NY — Vikings are invading Battery Park City this weekend — or at least a modern-day replica of one of their ships is.
The ship Draken Harald Hårfagre will be docking at North Cove Marina at Brookfield Place for a week beginning on Saturday. It will be open for tours from Sept. 18 to Sept. 22 and Sept. 24 to Sept. 26.
Visitors will have a chance to tour the decks, learn about the building of the ship and the history of its expeditions. You will then be sacrificed to Thor and live eternally in Valhalla. (That last part may not be true.)

According to its builders, construction on the ship began in 2010, but was not completed until 2012. The ship made its first ocean-going trip to England from Norway in 2014. And they decided to sail the ship across the Atlantic to far-away New York City this summer.
It is 114 feet long, has a 3,200-square-foot sail and just enough space to fit a crew large enough to plunder a 10th-century English village. It is the largest Viking ship ever built in the modern era, according to Draken Expedition America.

To be completely honest, it is pretty impressive, as this video will attest.
