West Village Chase Robbed for Second Time This Month

A man robbed a Chase Bank in the middle of the day on Saturday, but there does not appear to be a connection between the two robberies.

A man robbed a Chase Bank in the middle of the day on Saturday right next to the Sheridan Square Viewing Garden, police said.

According to the NYPD, a man walked into the bank at 204 W. 4th St. in the West Village at 12:30 p.m. and passed a note to the teller demanding money. The teller complied and the robber made off with an undetermined amount of money.

The suspect is described as a white man, 30 to 35 years old, and about 5-foot-10 and 210 pounds. He was wearing a white tank top and blue shorts at the time of the robbery.

The same bank was robbed on July 9 at 10:30 a.m. by a serial bank robber dubbed the "Avenue of the Americas bandit." That suspect showed a semi-automatic pistol at the time of his robberies and was accompanied by a woman. That string of robberies, three of which happened in the West Village, does not appear to be connected to the one from Saturday.

Robberies in general are on the rise in the West Village, according to police statistics. There were seven robberies from July 4 to July 10, and year-to-date robberies are up 27.3 percent from last year.
