Heineken Out, Apartments In: Eyesore To Be Replaced By 7 New Units

The Heineken-festooned beer and soda distribution facility, sold last year, will make way for new apartments.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — The Heineken-festooned former beer and soda distribution facility at 298 E. 2nd St. is set to make way for new apartments.

Permits filed with the city's Department of Buildings on Wednesday show developers plan on putting up an eight-story, seven-apartment building on the property. The application was processed, but it is still pending zoning approval.

The property was sold for just over $7 million in October 2015, city records show. The one-story beer distribution building was approved for demolition back in April.

New York YIMBY was first to report the permits had been filed.

The new building is set to have a duplex on the first and second floors, with one apartment each on floors 2 through 8, according to plans. It will also have a 60-square-foot bicycle storage room on the bottom floor.

The building is right across the street from the neighborhood's New York Public Library branch and next to The Adele, a 135-residence luxury apartment building opened in 2014.
