Anthology Film Archives To Expand

The Anthology Film Archives has gotten the ok to add a library and a cafe to its space.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — The Anthology Film Archives will expand its East Village space after getting approval from a city agency.

The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the film group's plans to expand its building at 32 Second Ave. The building will get another story, making room for a library and cafe, DNAinfo was first to report. The building that houses the film center was first built in 1920, before the AFC acquired it in 1979, according to city records. The building is part of the East Village/Lower East Side historic district. Adding a cafe and a library to the building, which currently has enough space for two theaters, had been long-planned features of the AFC, according to the architects.
