Burglars Steal $10K From Union Square Restaurant: NYPD
Two thieves broke into a safe inside Vapiano, a block from Union Square, police said.

UNION SQUARE, NY -- Less than a month after gas mask-clad burglars robbed it for thousands of dollars, a Union Square eatery was the target of yet another high-priced heist, police said.
A man and a woman broke into Vapiano, a European pizza and pasta chain inside 113 University Place, at around 3 a.m. on May 29, police said.
After the pair forced open the front door, the woman stood lookout outside while the man broke into a safe in the eatery and stole $10,000 in cash, authorities said.

The pair then fled with the cash, running west on East 13 Street.
The man was caught on tape carrying a dark backpack and clad in what appeared to be a dust mask along with a dark baseball cap, a gray shirt, jeans and tan boots, police said. The woman is also shown carrying an orange bag with "Time Warner" printed across the side and wearing a black hoodie pulled tightly over her head, dark pants and white sneakers.

The heist happened less than a month after two burglars in gas masks were caught on tape stealing from the restaurant for the second time.
In two separate thefts - first on Feb. 11 and again on April 1 - two men in gas masks stole a combined $11,000 from a safe and a cash box in the eatery during the midnight hours, Patch previously reported.
Police didn't say whether the two burglaries were connected.
