Developers Plan Apartments For Old East Village Theater

The Third Street space was previously used by the Blue Man Group and as a movie theater.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — An old East Village cinema-turned-Blue Man Group rehearsal space could became a seven-story residential building, according to building plans filed by developers.

The building at 238 E. Third St. was previously owned by the Blue Man Group and used as a rehearsal and office space. Developers are looking to put in a new apartment building with 27, 657 square feet of space, if the plans are approved. YIMBY was first to report on the developers' plans.

Demolition permits for the building haven't yet been filed, but the existing structure would need to be razed for the apartment building to be built there.

City records show that the Blue Man Group used the space starting in 1998. Before that, the building was home to the American Movies movie theater.
