EAST VILLAGE, NY — A CBD shop in the East Village will host a costume contest for dogs and CBD dog treats for Halloween this month, the shop announced Wednesday.

Come Back Daily, which opened earlier this year on East 11th Street, is inviting dog owners to a costume contest and CBD treats for an event co-hosted with the company CBD Dog Health.

CBD Dog Health co-founder Angela Ardolino and the shop's owner Steven Phan will host a question and answer session about CBD dog treats and a costume contest for the most Instagrammable pets.

"Sharing the wellness benefits of CBD will only strengthen that loving bond, contributing to a happy and healthy lifestyle for the entire family," Phan said.

CBD, known as cannabidiol, is an active compound in cannabis, but does not have psychoactive properties that you get high. But the industry has exploded, and is expected to hit $16 billion by 2025 in the U.S., in part because of various claims it reduces anxiety, helps with sleep, and other issues.

A lack of conclusive evidence of the pros and cons in both humans and dogs have left the industry in a regulatory grey area. Earlier this year, the city's Health Department has barred bars and eateries from selling CBD as an additive in drinks and foods, though that hasn't stopped the additive from being sold.

Ardolino, who owns a rescue farm where she hosts CBD sessions to talk about using it and essential oils for pets, claims CBD helps dogs with various symptoms. She'll lead a question-and-answer session with Phan at the costume contest.

The event is free. It will be Oct. 30, 6 to 8 p.m. at 516 E. 11th St.
