East Village Dive Bar Continental Closing After 27 Years
Rock icons the Ramones, Patti Smith and Guns N' Roses have played at the East Village dive bar.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — East Village dive bar the Continental is closing after 27 years of hosting punk icons including the Ramones, Iggy Pop and Guns N' Roses.
Owner Trigger Smith announced that the Third Avenue watering hole will shutter on Dec. 15 with one last wild party hosted by rocker Jesse Malin, the New York Post reported.
The no-frills bar, also known for its five shots of anything for $12 deal, nearly closed earlier this year but after a handful of lease extensions Smith finally decided to call it quits.

"It is with heavy heart that I have to inform everyone that Continental's days are numbered," Smith wrote on the bar's website when it was in danger of closing earlier this year.
"It's truly heartbreaking that we and so many Old Skool places are falling by the wayside but unless you own your building that's how it goes."
