The new coronavirus has changed life for all of us. Local businesses have taken a huge economic hit, but communities are finding creative ways to support the establishments they know and love.

In an effort to help local businesses in our communities stay connected and succeed, Patch will be shining a light on some of them through a series of Q&A articles during this time.

Madame Vo is one of the businesses in town facing struggles during the coronavirus. You can lend your support by reading more about the company, below, and by contacting them here.

Tell us about your business and its history in your town.

Founded in 2017 by husband-wife duo Chef Jimmy Ly and “Madame” Yen Vo, Madame Vo Restaurant Group is a New York City-based hospitality group that showcases a wide range of traditional Vietnamese cuisine — including home cooking, street-style dishes and lesser-known regional specialties — in elevated, but approachable settings for the modern American diner.

The flagship Madame Vo is a homestyle Vietnamese kitchen focusing on family recipes and noodle dishes, while Madame Vo BBQ, opened in early 2019, spotlights traditional tabletop Vietnamese barbecue. Madame Vo has been featured in the New York Times, Time Out New York, Complex, Vice and Hypebeast.

How has the new coronavirus impacted your business and its employees?

We have had to close dine-in at both of our restaurants, Madame Vo and Madame Vo BBQ. Madame Vo is still open only for takeout and delivery from Tuesday through Sunday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

How can local customers support you now and in the future?

They can order takeout and delivery in Manhattan via Caviar, Uber Eats and GrubHub. They can also phone in takeout orders.

Do you have any words of encouragement for your community?

Stay safe and stay indoors. Take care of and help one another. We need to come together during this time and support our community — especially medical professionals and first responders, the hospitality industry and small businesses that are hardest hit.

Are there any other outstanding businesses in town you think deserve some community support?

Yes! A lot of our friends in the neighborhood are still open, including 886, Sunrise Mart and Curry-Ya.
