East Village's Superiority Burger Chef Named James Beard Finalist

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Chef Brooks Headley of Superiority Burger was named a James Beard finalist for best chef in New York Wednesday.

The 300-square-foot veggie burger spot was known for its pop-ups before the restaurant opened up in the East Village in 2015.

Headley of the East Village vegetarian eatery, located at 430 East Ninth St., was named among 20 semi-finalists in New York City that were narrowed down to five this week.

Headley was named a finalist alongside chefs of Atla, Momofuku Ko, Via Carota and Empellón Midtown.

The James Beard Foundation announced the finalists Wednesday, with several New York City establishments and chefs

seeking the prestigious award — known as the Oscars of the culinary world.

The awards will be presented May 6 at the Lyric Opera in Chicago.
