Don't Miss The Next East River Park Resiliency Project Hearing
The Department of Design and Construction will hold another public hearing on the east side resiliency project.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — There's another chance to tell the city what you think about the east side resiliency project this month.
The Department of Design and Construction will hold a hearing on September 17 regarding the sweeping storm protection project that requires shuttering East River Park for 3.5 years.
The hearing will be another chance for neighbors to weigh in on the project, which has proved controversial in the neighborhood since the East River Park will be buried and rebuilt and undergo years of construction. The project is currently winding through the public review process called uniform land use review procedure, which is expected to undergo a vote by the City Planning Commission September 24 before heading to City Council.

The September 17 hearing is required by the Department of Housing and Urban Development after a former plan was changed nearly a year ago, since some $338 million of federal dollars are bankrolling the $1.45 billion project through federal grants, DDC said. Remaining funds have been allocated by the city.
The city is required to hold the hearing on the proposed amendment to the project, dubbed East Side Coastal Resiliency.
