Himalayan Salt Cave To Bring Unique Therapy To East Village

EAST VILLAGE, NY - The Himalayas might be the ultimate dream escape from the hot summer in the city – that's a Himalayan salt cave in the East Village rather than the lofty mountain peaks.

A chain of spas with an atmosphere drenched in salt is planning a new branch on 10th Street near Third Avenue.

Montauk Salt Cave makes bold claims about the health benefits, saying its therapy “clears all pollens, viruses, pollutants and toxins of our lungs and nasal passageways.”

The pluses of salt therapy are actually dubious, as DNAinfo noted. It pointed to a post by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation saying studies on the topic have been scarce and quoting an expert who advised against using salt therapy as a way to heal.

Still, if kicking back in a room filled with salt appeals to you, Montauk Salt Cave is the place to be.

It costs $40 per session at the companies original Montauk site. The company has another branch in Huntington.
