Man Arrested For Fatal Stabbing In The East Village

A man has been arrested and charged with murder after fatal stabbing in the East Village.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Police arrested a man for murder after a fatal stabbing in the East Village, police said.

Christopher Dixon, 26, was arrested and charged Tuesday about 12:50 p.m. for murder after a fatal stabbing of Phibeon Smalls, 27, a fellow resident of an East Ninth Street supportive housing building for young adults with a history of homelessness or mental illness.

Smalls was stabbed at the East Village building at 710 East Ninth St. before he staggered a block and collapsed in front of the Jacob Riis Houses, the Daily News reported.

Officers responded to a reported assault about 8:50 p.m. Monday at 1115 FDR Drive, where they found Smalls with stab wounds in his stomach, police said.

Emergency medical services took him to Bellevue Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
