Monday's leg slashing near Avenue D comes a few weeks after a police chase in Tompkins Square Park for a gun after one person was stabbed.

In the Ninth Precinct, two people have been killed in 2019 — one man was stabbed to death and another was shot in the head.

Despite the uptick in murders in 2019, major crimes overall were down by about 13 percent in the past two years in the Ninth, but felony assaults were up nearly 16 percent in two years, NYPD statistics through Sept. 22 show.
