Person Killed By Train At First Avenue L Train Station, MTA Says

A person was fatally struck by a train at the First Avenue L train station, the MTA said.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — A person was hit and killed by a train at the First Avenue L train station, the MTA said.

L train service halted between Bedford and Eighth Aves. for about two hours after a person was hit and killed by a train at the First Avenue station in the East Village, the MTA said.

The person was reportedly observed jumping in front of a Manhattan-bound L train, an NYPD spokeswoman said.

The transit agency warned straphangers of L train delays in both directions while L train service halted.

Just before 7 p.m., NYCT Subway tweeted third-rail power was restored and by about 7:25 p.m., MTA alerted commuters that L train service was back in service but that straphangers could expect delays.

For service into Manhattan from Williamsburg, transit users could take a Queens-bound G train at Metropolitan Ave. to Court Sq. and transfer to the E, M or 7 lines. From Myrtle-Wyckoff Ave., take the M line, the MTA said.

For Brooklyn-bound service, take a Downtown A, C, E or F train to West Fourth St./Washington Sq. station and transfer to the J or M, or take a downtown 6 train to the Bleecker St.-Broadway/Lafayette station and transfer, the MTA said.
