Play About Gloria Steinem's Life To Debut In Union Square
The feminist activist and organizer's life will be chronicled in a new play opening at the Daryl Roth Theatre.

UNION SQUARE, NY — A biographical play about the pioneering feminist Gloria Steinem's life will debut off-Broadway at a Union Square theater in October.
The play, "Gloria: A Life," will open at the Daryl Roth Theatre, 101 E. 15th St., the New York Times was first to report.
The show is being developed by an all-female creative and producing team, a rarity in the mainstream theater world. The play was written by Emily Mann and will be produced by Daryl Roth, with Tony-winning Diane Paulus working as director.

The first act of "Gloria: A Life," which is being developed with Steinem's cooperation, will be a biographical sketch of Steinem's life and lengthy career. The second act will be a moderated discussion with the audience, according to the Times.
"I hope people will tell their own stories and make connections with other people in the room, with ideas, with actions they can take the next day and the next," Steinem told the Times. "I do think there is now more energy and activism than I have seen in my lifetime."

Steinem has spent most of her career as a writer and feminist organizer based in New York City. In New York she co-founded "Ms." magazine and reported and published numerous articles about women's rights, including her famous undercover expose of how how Playboy "Bunnies" were treated at the New York Playboy Club.
"Gloria: A Life" is scheduled to open on Oct. 18.
