Smoke At Union Square Station Prompts Train Delays: MTA
Smoke at the 14th Street-Union Square subway station prompted delays along the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 trains, according to the MTA.
UNION SQUARE, NY — A fire on the subway tracks at the Union Square station spurred multiple train delays Tuesday afternoon, according to the MTA and FDNY.
Multiple trains were plagued with delays and service impacts about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday while the Fire Department investigated the smoke at the 14th Street stop, according to the MTA.
Firefighters rushed to the station just after 4 p.m., dousing the flames about half an hour later, an FDNY spokesperson said. Power was cut temporarily on the trains, and the northbound 4 and 5 trains ran on the local track from 14th to 42nd streets for a period of time, the transit authority and FDNY official said.

Delays along the 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 trains were expected as transit officials got the trains back on schedule, the MTA said in an alert.
