Swiss Institute Relocating to East Village from SoHo
The art organization has found a new home after it was reported Jeffrey Deitch would be returning to his original space in SoHo.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — The Swiss Institute has found a new home, and they're getting a completely redesigned building to go along with it.
The contemporary art organization has been located at 18 Wooster St. in SoHo since 2011, but will now be heading to the East Village for its new location, according to the Institute. They've commissioned Selldorf Architects, the group behind the trendy new NoHo digs at 10 Bond St., to redesign the four-floor, 7,500-square-foot space on the corner of St. Mark's Place and Second Avenue. The now-empty space used to be a Chase bank branch, and it'll be located across the street from Dallas BBQ, if you work up an appetite after an exhibition.
It's scheduled to get a full makeover with space for exhibitions, a library, bookstore and usable rooftop space. The new building is scheduled to open in spring 2017.

“This new building offers tremendous opportunities to expand upon our mission and serve a growing audience, to whom we will continue to offer forward-looking exhibitions and public programs, always free of charge,” Swiss Institute Director Simon Castets said in a statement. “We look forward to joining and contributing to the diverse community of cultural organizations and artists that have called the East Village home for many years.”
It was reported back in March that Jeffrey Deitch would be returning to his old home at 18 Wooster St., necessitating a move by the Swiss Institute.
