Trader Joe's Shows Signs Of East Village Opening: Reports
Rumors of a second Trader Joe's location in the East Village died down last year. They've been re-ignited by a recent shipment.

EAST VILLAGE, NY — Eagle-eyed East Villagers spotted signs that 2017 rumors of a second Trader Joe's opening in the neighborhood may come true, according to reports.
A shipment of construction equipment for Trader Joe's was unloaded Thursday morning outside the EVE apartment complex on East 14th Street between First Avenue and Avenue A, neighborhood blog EV Grieve first reported. The site was announced as a new Trader Joe's location in 2017, but the reports never materialized.
But the equipment delivery — doors, transoms, shell walls, handrails etc. — indicates that Trader Joe's construction will begin soon at the location. The EVE's website also seems to confirm the reports: "with a Trader Joe’s in the building, you may not need to go too far."

The new store will be located directly across the street from Stuyvesant Town-Peter Cooper Village, the city's largest apartment complex which houses about 27,000 people. It may provide relief for shoppers at the nearby Union Square outpost of Trader Joe's, which is constantly plagued with lines out the door.
