EAST VILLAGE, NY — Garbage trucks stinking up the East Village will be moved after more than a year of complaints from locals, officials announced.

Trash trucks, previously parked on East 10th Street between First and Second avenues nights and Sunday, will be moved to Pier 42 off the FDR Drive, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“When New Yorkers want something done, they want it done yesterday," said de Blasio. "Which is why we’d like to thank our neighbors in the East Village for bearing with us while we found a new home for our sanitation trucks."

The 21 trucks were moved to East 10th Street after the city's lease expired at a Hudson Yards depot, and residents say the trucks turned the block into a public toilet.

Pier 42 can only a temporary solution as the city plans to build a park on it in 2020, said City Council Member Carlina Rivera.

“I am happy that DSNY is providing the residents and small businesses of East 10th Street with relief from the garbage trucks," Rivera said. "But as the park we fought for and secured at Pier 42 begins development in 2020, I look forward to working with the City to find an appropriate, more permanent location for these trucks.”
