Video: Manhole Erupts In Flames In Greenwich Village
Fire and smoke rose from a manhole in Greenwich Village on East 13th Street Wednesday afternoon, according to the FDNY.
GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — Flames rose from a manhole on East 13th Street near Union Square Wednesday afternoon, according to video and the Fire Department.
A fire broke out at a manhole in the middle of the East 13th Street bike lane between Broadway and University Place about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to video and an FDNY spokesperson.
The spokesperson said about 30 firefighters rushed to the manhole, where video shows flames were rising from the street and heavy smoke billowing towards the sky.

No injuries had been reported just after 3 p.m.
Firefighters were on scene with ConEdison, the FDNY spokesperson said.
