Woman Found Dead in Alphabet City Had Scarf Wrapped Tightly Around Her Neck, Police Say
The woman's name was Brooke Garcia, and she had a four-year-old daughter.

ALPHABET CITY, NY — Police on Thursday identified the 27-year-old woman found dead in Ward Houses on Avenue D as Brooke Garcia, according to NYPD.
The police said that she was found Wednesday with a scarf wrapped tightly around her neck in an apartment belonging to her aunt.
Jose Sierra, Garcia's brother, told the New York Daily News that Garcia had been out of work for several months, and that she has a 4-year-old daughter.

Sierra had seen his sister last Thursday and "told her to get her act together,” he said. “I told her to get a job, just trying to give her advice.”
Sierra also told the Daily News that cops were considering his sister's death a "high profile" case, since several of her family members are NYPD officers.

In addition to the scarf wrapped around her neck, there was reportedly blood on the floor, according to the Daily News. The NYPD said the the the medical examiner has yet to determine Garcia's cause of death.
"Rip to my lil sis," Sierra posted on Facebook above a picture of him and Garcia as children. "I love you so much i am so sad."
