1. Boat Accident off North Carolina Kills Montauk Fisherman, 24

The Montauk community was rocked earlier this month when Donald Alversa, died in a fishing accident aboard a dragger off the coast of North Carolina on Sept. 7. He was just 24 years old. His family is still in our thoughts and prayers during what continues to be a difficult time. 

2. Ronkonkoma Man Was Reported Missing Before Body Found off Montauk

A man's body was found in the water off Montauk Point on Sept. 1. A Ronkonkoma man was reported missing a day earlier, and his car was found in the Montauk Point State Park. 

3. Lightning Strikes Inlet Seafood During Thunderstorm in Montauk

While things tend to slow down on Labor Day, Inlet Seafood Restauranton East Lake Drive in Montauk had a jolt of activity when lightning struck, starting a small fire on Sept. 2. 

4. 'Tornado' Reportedly Sighted In Area

Despite reports of a tornado headed toward East Hampton, meteorologists say the technical word for the phenomenon is a "water spout." First responders in the Riverhead and North Fork area said they heard reports of a "tornado in the Mattituck or Laurel" area around 2 p.m. on Sept. 14.

5. Cops Solve Montauk Burglaries, Link Defendant to Other Cases

On Sept. 14, East Hampton Town police arrested a man they say is responsible for three burglaries at Montauk hotels last month, including one that was occupied at the time.
