Authors' Night at the East Hampton Library
The ninth annual benefit cocktail reception and a selection of privately hosted dinners with area authors to benefit the library on August 9
The East Hampton Library’s annual “Authors’ Night” fundraiser will take place on the grounds of the Gardiner Farm, 36 James Lane, in the Village of East Hampton, on August 9 from 5 to 7 in the evening. This year, more than 100 authors will be on hand to sign books and meet and talk about their work.
The event, which began in 2005, has become one of the community’s most popular fundraising events with more than a 1,000 guests attending last year.
Authors who have signed up for this year’s event include Eric Asimov, Robert Caro, Dick Cavett, Nelson DeMille, Florence Fabricant, Lee Grant, Aerin Lauder, Eric Van Lustbader, Joe Pintauro, Michael Shnayerson, and Lynn Sherr.

Tickets are also available to a series of small dinners hosted at private houses featuring the authors. Heather Bertinetti, a pastry chef and the author of “Bake It, Don’t Fake It!” will reveal tricks for giving homemade desserts the “wow” presentation. Two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner Robert Caro will discuss his fourth book, the biography of Lyndon Johnson “The Passage of Power” with an intimate group, and Philip Caputo, author of “The Longest Road,” will talk about his epic journey across America in an airstream trailer. There are many more author dinners planned. For a full list see the library’s website.
Tickets to the author reception at the Gardiner Farm cost $100 and can be purchased online. Dinners with the author can also be purchased online and the cost ranges from $250 to $2,500.
