East Hampton Places Third in Lifeguard Tournament

Smith Point lifeguards won a tournament Monday at Smith Point County Park that featured competing teams demonstrating their lifesaving skills. A team from Long Beach finished second.

The Smith Point team, nine times national champions, led the way through events that included simulated water rescues, board competitions, beach runs and other activities.
This is how the teams finished:

1. Smith Point – 52 points
2. Long Beach – 41 points
3. East Hampton – 33.5 points
4. Jones Beach – 31 points
5. Fire Island – 28 points
6. Westhampton – 27 points
7. Town of Hempstead – 18.5 points
